How do you play XenoShyft - Dreadmire?
XenoShyft - Dreadmire is a game for 1 to 4 players that lasts for 9 rounds, divided into 3 waves. Each player takes on the role of a division leader, such as Science, Weapons, Med Bay, or Armory. Each division has a unique deck of cards that represents their troops and items. Each player also has a lane card that shows their base health and their position in the base.
The game is played in turns, starting with the first player and going clockwise. Each turn consists of 6 phases: Reveal, Income, Trade, Purchase, Deploy, and Combat.
Reveal: The first player reveals an enemy card from the current wave deck and places it face up on their lane card. The enemy card shows its health, damage, abilities, and rewards. Each player does this in turn until each lane has one enemy card.
Income: Each player gains xenosathem (the currency of the game) equal to their current wave number plus any bonuses from their cards.
Trade: Each player can trade one card from their hand with another player. This can help players get the cards they need or share their resources.
Purchase: Each player can buy one or more cards from the item deck using their xenosathem. The item deck contains various weapons, armor, gadgets, and consumables that can boost the players' troops or hinder the enemies. The purchased cards go to the players' discard piles.
Deploy: Each player can play one or more troop cards from their hand onto their lane card. The troop cards show their health, damage, abilities, and cost. The cost is paid by discarding other cards from the hand. The played troop cards form a line in front of the enemy card on the lane card.
Combat: Each player resolves combat on their lane card by comparing the damage and health of their troop cards and enemy card. The combat is simultaneous, meaning both sides deal damage at the same time. If a troop card's health is reduced to zero or less, it is discarded. If an enemy card's health is reduced to zero or less, it is defeated and placed in a reward pile. If there are still troop cards and enemy cards on the lane card after combat, another round of combat is resolved until one side is eliminated.
If all enemy cards are defeated before all troop cards are discarded, the players win the round. They collect their reward piles and draw new cards from their decks until they have six cards in hand. They also advance the wave tracker to the next round.
If any enemy card reaches the base (meaning there are no troop cards left to stop it), it deals damage to the base equal to its remaining health. The base health is tracked on each lane card using tokens. If any player's base health reaches zero or less, the game ends immediately and the players lose.
The game also ends if the players run out of enemy cards before completing all 9 rounds. This means they have successfully defended the base and extracted enough sathem fuel to win.
